Aesop South Yarra

Conceived in-house and inspired by Antti Lovag’s concept of habitology, where ‘conviviality is a circular phenomenon,’ the design creates curves within rectangles, soft edges within hard spaces, and organic movement against structured pathways.

The second incarnation of Aesop’s South Yarra store explores the architecture of reclining and conversing, and includes a luminous facial treatment room. Conceived in-house and inspired by Antti Lovag’s concept of habitology, where ‘conviviality is a circular phenomenon,’ the design creates curves within rectangles, soft edges within hard spaces, and organic movement against structured pathways.

A continuous cabinet of Australian Spotted Gum timber wraps the room, morphing into basins and an in-built sofa as it progresses around the perimeter—guiding visitors through varying experiences of the space. Referencing 1970s lounges, a textural fabric in a mustard tone upholsters the curvilinear banquette, encouraging visitors to repose and linger over an uplifting libation.

Tucked away towards the back of the room, an individual basin provides opportunity for in-depth and personal consultations with the store’s dexterous consultants. Beyond the shop floor, a facial treatment room is now open for appointments.
